We have three core areas of expertise, all of which are central to our business: we develop areas of emerging risk, we disrupt niche insurance markets and we partner with specialty lines brokers. We support these three pillars of our business by investing heavily in our proprietary IT platforms.
We aim to be global leaders in emerging risk. We were one of the early pioneers of cyber insurance back in 1999 and now insure over 25,000 companies against cyber risk. Within the past two years we have developed the first cyber product designed specifically for the healthcare sector, released our ground-breaking cyber product for very large corporates, and launched the first dedicated cyber incident response app. We also have the largest dedicated intellectual property insurance team in London and probably the largest intellectual property insurance book in the world. In addition, we have particular expertise in the technology, media and life science arenas with a very diverse book of over 11,000 customers.
Niche insurance markets
We are passionate about identifying inefficient or under-served niche markets and disrupting them by applying a unique blend of people, product, process and technology. We did this successfully with our standalone terrorism platform that reduced the quote time for a $200m line from almost one week to one minute; we then applied the same methodology to marine piracy, developing a bespoke IT platform that is the first in the world to allow brokers to streamline and automate the process for quoting single transit insurance.
Specialty lines insurance partner
Our core area of expertise is in the specialty classes. We write large volumes of specialty business directly to brokers all around the world from our office in London. We differentiate by providing market leading products, service and systems and we believe that we can enhance our brokers’ profitability by helping them transact business more easily and efficiently.
We create products that customers want to buy, not that the insurance industry want to sell. We have particularly pioneered cross-class products in many of our territories, sometimes bundling professional indemnity, management liability, public liability, employers liability, property, business interruption, cyber, privacy and legal expenses all in one form.
The continued investment in our in-house application development team provides a significant part of our competitive advantage. We have developed a number of proprietary IT systems to assist our brokers transact insurance business more efficiently. From white labelled affinity systems to bespoke applications created to automate book transfers, we can provide a truly joined-up IT and insurance proposition to brokers.
