Bitcoin burglars hit the West Country
It was only a matter of time before the first cryptocurrency hold-up occurred – and now it has. The sleepy South Oxfordshire village of Moulsford was stunned when four masked robbers broke into the house of Bitcoin trader Daniel Ashton brandishing firearms. They threatened his girlfriend and baby, forcing him to make a bitcoin transfer in their favour.
Mr Ashton and his partner are directors of a digital currency trading business. Bitcoin has increased in value by over 1000% between January and December 2017, before losing a third of its value just before Christmas. Each bitcoin is currently worth $8000.
The haze of secrecy that surrounds Bitcoin makes the task of tracking down the felons harder for the police but they will be monitoring the cryptocurrency market in case the burglars attempt to convert their booty into conventional cash.
