UK announces new IoT safety guidelines
As part of its Security by Design review, The British Government is introducing a new code of practice to ensure that connected technology companies incorporate effective security systems into their IoT devices. Many manufacturers, service providers and developers have taken criticism for failing to make their products safe from hackers – by prioritising speed and ease of online connection ahead of security.
In future, connected tech businesses will need to encrypt data, implement admin passwords, issue automatic updates and initiate vulnerability policies.
The Government’s stated aim is to make sure the IoT industry develops safety standards that safeguard the consumer and that the UK remains at the cutting edge of the international digital economy.
