US laws toughened on data breaches
In an attempt to stem the current flow of data breaches, several US states are introducing new legislation to tighten up data protection. Prompted perhaps by the introduction of GDPR in Europe, state legislators in Delaware, Oregon, South Dakota and Alabama have all unveiled new data privacy laws. Canada is also imposing tough regulations on data breaches.
There is a growing onus on organisations of every variety to protect the sensitive personal details of all citizens; whether they be customers, voters, employees, patients or taxpayers.
The collection, storage and protection of people’s confidential personal information – and, in particular, the response if it is stolen or compromised – is one of today’s hottest IT topics.
